Poetry and Translation Reading, Albany, CA, 5/08/2012

Celebrate National Poetry Month with Derek at the Albany Branch of the Alameda County Library.  He’ll be joined by his wife Annie, who’ll read from her recently published translation of The Twelve Chairs (Northwestern 2011), Ilf and Petrov’s classic satire of the early Soviet state.  Copies of Annie’s translation can be purchased directly from Northwestern here.

Together they’ll read from The Joyous Science: Selected Poems of Maxim Amelin, their award-winning translation-in-progress.  Come see why Amelin (b. 1970) has been hailed as a pre-eminent voice in post-Soviet Russian verse.

The Albany library is located at 1247 Marin Ave., Albany, CA 94706.  Albany is just west of Berkeley, between the city and the Bay.

Event begins at 7 PM
